The Path of Philosophy is a classic Kyoto route and a short and easy walk. However, the route listed here is "plus" as it starts at the subway station, goes under a spiral tunnel, takes a stop at a few temples and inclused the "official" Path of Philosophy in the route. I wrote more about it in my post here.
3. Keage Station
Kyoto Subway Station on the Tozai line. If you'd like to take the extended walk I took down the Philosopher's Path, this is a good place to start!
4. Nejiri-mampo (Spiral Brick Tunnel)
Spiral brick-lined tunnel going underneath the Keage incline. Plenty of cherry blossoms atop if you're there at the right time of year.
5. Nanzen-ji
Nanzen-ji is a large temple with many sub-temples. Be sure to buy a tea ticket and sip some matcha while you view the waterfall.
6. Konchi-in
Konchi-in is a sub-temple of Nanzen-ji; visit both at the same time and combine them with a walk on the Philosopher's Path for an enjoyable day.
8. Eikan-do
Temple with beautiful gardens and a waterfall.
9. Beginning of Philosopher's Path
Here is the official beginning of the Philosopher's path.
10. Philosopher's Path End
Here is the official end of the Philosopher's Path -- or the beginning depending on which way you are heading.
11. Ginkaku-ji
While the Golden Pavilion is truly golden, the Silver Pavilion does not appear to live up to its nickname. Its true name is Higashiyama Jisho-ji.
The pavilion is a popular tourist attraction, so expect crowds.
