Ebike Friendly? Not a cycling route. You could definitely ride bikes nearby from place to place on the road -- but I BELIEVE the pathway on part of this route was not open to bikes.

The Path of Philosophy is a classic Kyoto route and a short and easy walk. However, the route listed here is "plus" as it starts at the subway station, goes under a spiral tunnel, takes a stop at a few temples and inclused the "official" Path of Philosophy in the route. I wrote more about it in my post here.

1. Start

Altitude: 0 ft

2. End

Altitude: 0 ft

3. Keage Station

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: Keage Sta., Higashikomonozachō, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0044, Japan

Kyoto Subway Station on the Tozai line. If you'd like to take the extended walk I took down the Philosopher's Path, this is a good place to start!

4. Nejiri-mampo (Spiral Brick Tunnel)

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: Keage Sta., Higashikomonozachō, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0044, Japan

Spiral brick-lined tunnel going underneath the Keage incline. Plenty of cherry blossoms atop if you're there at the right time of year.

5. Nanzen-ji

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: Nanzenji Fukuchichō, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, 606-8435, Japan

Nanzen-ji is a large temple with many sub-temples. Be sure to buy a tea ticket and sip some matcha while you view the waterfall.

6. Konchi-in

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: 86-12 Nanzenji Fukuchichō, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan

Konchi-in is a sub-temple of Nanzen-ji; visit both at the same time and combine them with a walk on the Philosopher's Path for an enjoyable day.

7. Suirokaku Water Bridge

Altitude: 0 ft

Old brick aqueduct -- and a great photo stop!

8. Eikan-do

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: 48 Eikandōchō, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan

Temple with beautiful gardens and a waterfall.

9. Beginning of Philosopher's Path

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: 15-1 Nyakuōjichō, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, 606-8444, Japan

Here is the official beginning of the Philosopher's path.

10. Philosopher's Path End

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: Philosopher's Path, Tetsugaku No Michi, 鹿ケ谷寺ノ前町 左京区 京都市 京都府 606-8426, Japan

Here is the official end of the Philosopher's Path -- or the beginning depending on which way you are heading.

11. Ginkaku-ji

Altitude: 0 ft
Address: 2 Ginkakujicho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, 606-8402, Japan

While the Golden Pavilion is truly golden, the Silver Pavilion does not appear to live up to its nickname. Its true name is Higashiyama Jisho-ji.

The pavilion is a popular tourist attraction, so expect crowds.
