Guillemot Cove, in Seabeck, is a favorite family hike because of the stump house at the bottom.
If you hike with kids make sure they are ones willing to hike back UP the hill on the return journey.
You'll also find forest, marshes, and of course, the beach at the cove.
The best time to hike this is Summer or Autumn -- I went once during a winter day only to find the boardwalks flooded over.
The route reflected here is from a GPX file I uploaded and it has put some of the markers in a somewhat strange numerical order. On this route, I didn't hike the full length of the maple tree trail or hike the ridge -- doing both of those can add length (maple tree trail) or hills (ridge trail) to your hike.
I also wrote about this hike here and re-added this as a route later.
You can also download a paper map from Kitsap County.
1. Sawmill Trail
Marker denoting that you're going on the Sawmill trail. The Sawmill trail will eventually turn into the Margaret trail and lead you down to the beach.
2. Building
Down by the beach, there's an outbuilding -- closed at the time of this particular visit.
3. Maple Tree Trail Sign
Sign marking the Maple Tree trail. During the hike where I recorded the GPX for this route I turned around early -- you can keep hiking out farther here for more of a hike.
5. Marshes and Boardwalks
Around here is a marshy area with boardwalks and bridges. Beware coming here during wet parts of the year as the boardwalks can get flooded and the trails can get mushy and you might not be able to actually make it down to the water (I've been there).
6. Stump House
Visiting the stump house is a favorite with kids who hike this route. But do be aware that the way back up is hilly -- so make sure your kid can (and will) hike back up.
7. Trailhead marker and box
There was a trailhead marker with information sheets -- and a box that sometimes has printed maps. It's helpful if you use a map to put it back for others when you're done.
8. Wide Path
If you don't want to go down, then up, the narrower forested hiking trails, there's a wider path that you can take down to the cove.
9. My Photo - 6/1/19, 3:33:01PM
There's a small parking area right across the street from the trailhead.
10. Stump House or Beach Sign
Sign marking the way to either the Stump House or the beach. Visit both!
11. Ridge or Beach Trail Sign
Trail marker where you can choose to hike the more difficult ridge trail or go for fun and head down to the beach. Of course, you can do both! But this particular day I opted for the beach.
12. Start
Here's where my route started. The trailhead is just across the street.
