Dosewallips North Tidal Area Trail

Look for Elk -- there's a large herd at Dosewallips and they frequent this area -- though they apparently make their way in a particular circuit over the course of weeks.

Ebike friendly ? No. Not a cycling route.
Pet friendly ? Dogs are allowed on leash.
Accessible? It's pretty flat -- except that the observation deck has stairs. However, the trail is gravel and if you go at low tide (as you should) the tidal areas are wet sand.

This is an easy walk that takes you out in the tides at Dosewallips. Go at low tide -- at other times you won't be able to walk this entire route. If you go at low tide, you'll find the trail ends and you can just go explore the tidelands.

I'm sure it's a good place to find shorebirds at times. On the foggy Autumn morning I did this walk, there were gulls, and an occasional Great Blue Heron.

However, Dosewallips has a large herd of Elk -- they were there in the morning - but I returned later after the fog had receded and found that they were more active and closer to the observation deck.

There are a few places to access the beach in Dosewallips State Park. For this trail, you'll want to make sure you go here.

The first part of the trail is gravel.

This is a great place to get photos -- if the elk are out here when you are and if they get close enough to the observation deck. As an aside, I took a video from this observation deck and it was shakier than expected as I had the camera on a tripod -- I am thinking that vibrations from walking on the deck was shaking the tripod a bit.

Across the tidelands.

I'm not sure if the photo here was taken in exactly this spot. But it gives an idea of the grassy areas on this walk. If the tide is in, you can only go so far. If the tide is out, you can go exploring much farther.
