Olympic National Park is one of three National Parks in Washington State. The park is on Northwest Washington State's Olympic Peninsula and features diverse climate zones and landscapes. We have more information about this National Park in our wiki section. You can find a downloadable Olympic National Park map under the "file" icon on our page or the NPS Olympic National Park map here.
Mount Rainier
Mount Rainier is the highest peak in Washington State and an active (though fortunately not eruptive) volcano. It's a very prominent landscape feature from many places in Western Washington.
Please do NOT use this marker for GPS locations! It's just noting the location of the mountain itself, and the surrounding Mount Rainier National Park has five different entrance locations. For more information about that visit this page on the NPS website.
North Cascades National Park
This is a map page with the North Cascades National Park location of the West Entrance to the park. For more information about the park, you can also visit our Glossary page entry on the park.
North Cascades National Park is one of three National Parks in Washington State (along with Mount Rainier National Park and Olympic National Park).
It's about two hours drive North of Seattle.
The map on this page is to the West entrance of the park, off Hwy 20.
Note that the most recent policy just states that ebikes are allowed, you should check their website for any updates. There are a few places in the park where ebikes are NOT allowed.
Note that while we added "pets on leash OK" here, you should check their website here for specifics as they are only allowed in certain areas of the park. Service animals, of course, are allowed.
Mount Rainier National Park
For additional information, maps, and recommended resources, please visit our PNWWiki glossary page about Mount Rainier National Park and Mount Rainier.
Mount Rainier National Park is one of three National Parks in Washington State (along with North Cascades National Park and Olympic National Park).
It includes both Mount Rainier and a great deal of surrounding land.

Pheasant Fields Farms
Years ago, I seem to recall they had a haunted farm -- which was fun a(and scary) for my kids when they were younger.
That is no longer, but they generally have a bunch of other activities besides pumpkins and corn maze which may include:
- Zombie train
- Paintball shooting gallery
- Hay ride
- Animals
- Homemade caramel apples
At the time of this listing, their hours are:
- Tuesday-Thurs 2PM - 6PM
- Fridays 10-6PM
- Saturday 10-6PM
- Sunday 12-6PM
Please check their website for any changes in hours and an updated schedule of events.
Scandia Patch Farm
They don't have a website, that we know of, so you'll have to verify their hours year to year.
But it's lovely place to visit, especially if you don't want to go to one of the larger pumpkin farms.
Remlinger Farms
The annual Harvest Festival generally runs 10-6 from late September through October and features wagon rides, pony rides, an apple canyon and, of course, pumpkins.
The standard price for 2024 was $29.99 with discounts for seniors,
Biringer Farm
Craven Farm
The pumpkin patch features a bunch of activities from a beer garden to an "Alice in Pumpkinland" maze (which looks incredible when seen from the drone shot on their website), a Kids' Maze, tractor rides, a cow train (no, the poor cows are not pulling a train! It's a train contraption for kids that is pulled behind a tractor and painted with cow spots.), and apple canyon, rubber duck races, "Human Football," axe throwing and, of course, farm animals.
I haven't been there since my kids were small, but have fond memories of this one. Perhaps I'll go again this year!
Generally prices for the activities are $5 each, but they also sell wristbands.
Dogs are not allowed except for a few, specific event days. See Pooches in the Patch.
Bob's Corn and Pumpkin Farm
The festivities at this 40 acre farm include an apple canyon, rope maze, and a 12-acre corn maze.
Note that our featured image of corn, here, is actually from another farm.
Stocker Farms
Special activities, such as the campfire, are extra.
In addition to pumpkins, you'll find a maze, pumpkin cannon, mega slide, beer garden and a list of various attractions that is just too long to list here!
Swans Trail Farms
They have a kids' area, a corn maze, fresh-pressed cider, and warm apple cider donuts, aside from their pumpkin patch.
Bailey Family Farm
The pumpkin patch is generally open from late September through October on weekends from 10:00-5:30 and on weekdays from 12:00-5:30.
Bellewood Farms
They're open from 9-4 Wednesday-Sunday
Fairbank Animal and Pumpkin Farm
Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center
Generally, they've been open 10-5 for the pumpkin patch during most of the month of October and feature hayrides and other family activities.
Jubilee Farm
The Harvest Festival happens on weekends from 10-5 in October and features hayrides, animals, and cider.
The U-Pick pumpkin patch is open weekdays from 12-5.
Fall City Farms
They also offer mini donuts and hot cider.
Carpinito Brothers
Entrance is $7.00, but you should check their website in case of price updates. That's for the pumpkin patch. They also have a corn maze and farm fun yard which are priced separately.
Generally, hours are 9-6.
Fat Turnip Farms
Wilderbee Farm
Their pumpkin patch is just a pumpkin patch -- they don't do corn mazes, tractor rides, etc. But if you go from 12-5 on weekends, you can sip some mead at their meadery!
They also have sheep and walking trails.
Hunter Farms
In Autumn, they have a huge pumpkin farm that features events, animals, tractor rides (you should catch the tractor out to the pumpkin patch!), and a corn/hay maze.
In the past, they've had a pumpkin catapult contest (!) But we'll need to see year to year if they're still doing that.
Their pumpkin patch generally opens up October 1, and is open throughout October.
They charge $5 admission which includes a bracelet that lets you in on the pumpkin farm, tractor rides, maze, and into the barn to look at the animals
Suyematsu Farm
Hours are Monday-Friday 1:00pm -6:00pm. Saturday and Sunday are 10:00am -5:00pm, but check their website to verify.
As far as other activities, they have tractor rides and a Kiddie Hay Maze.

Columbia River Gorge
The Gorge is a large canyon in the Columbia River starting in the area of the Deschutes river and ending somewhere around Wishram, WA. You may wish to view our pnwwiki page on the topic for more information.
The polylines on the map here are very imprecise. The area from west to east is approximately the right length to give you a feel for the area of the Columbia River that is covered by the Columbia River Natural Area, but the area North and South of the river does not represent the actual borders of the natural area. For a better map of the boundaries you might want to visit this page.

Seattle Waterfront
We think of it more as an area or historic district.
The area has about 20 piers with shops, restaurants, and things to do.
Some of our many suggestions -- we don't dine there often anymore but spent enough time there growing up:
- Go on the Seattle Great Wheel
- Visit the Seattle Aquarium
- Rent a bike
- If you like oddities, visit the Old Curiosity Shop. This is now in a different location than when I was growing up, but it still has its mummies and other weird stuff.
- Get fish and chips at Ivars

MoPop
It was built in 2000 and was initially founded by Paul Allen as the "Experience Music Project," no doubt in homage to Seattle's Jimi Hendrix. EMP eventually became MoPop and widened its focus to encompass more popular culture.
Architect Frank Gehry designed the structure with the intention of making it express "rock and roll" kind of like a guitar. {[{Personally, when it first went in, I thought it looked like a larger and more colorful version of the Queen Anne blob, which no longer exists. But it's grown on me.}]}

One thing I love here is the collection of small (guitars? ukeleles?) stringed instruments made out of cigar boxes.
Liberty Bay Books
According to their website, the shop opened as Shotwell's Books in 1997, and has had a couple of owners since then with local childrens' author Suzanne Selfors being the owner currently (2024).
The shop has a variety of books, some games, and sometimes holds readings and signings from local authors.
It's a friendly, small bookstore that's fun to browse.
The current hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm.
Poulsbo First Lutheran Church
It's a lovely old white church with a blue steeple and bells that go off regularly. In back, you'll find an old town cemetery.
Aside from being an active Lutheran congregation, it regularly holds one of Poulsbo two (or at least two) Lutefisk dinners.
Tizley's Europub
There's a small deck where you can find outdoor seating, if you're lucky. Prepare not to get that spot on the day of the Viking Fest parade.
The Guardian Stone
The sculpture was installed in 2016 and as Poulsbo's often known as "Little Norway" is reflective of Vikings and reminds one of Sverd i fjell, a sculpture of swords that's located in Norway.
Valhöll Brewing
It's easy to notice this one. The building may be a bit nondescript but you'll notice the huge Viking logo on the front.
I'm not a beer drinker, but my spouse reassures me that their beer is very good.
Western Red Brewing Poulsbo
They occasionally have game nights or pizza events.
Echoes Brewing
If you're visiting in Summer, you'll find a nice, outdoor, seating area -- covered, actually, in case it's not so nice.
It's not right on the main drag in "downtown" Poulsbo -- but nothing in town is too far away. In fact, there are a couple of annual pub runs to all the breweries. You could do your own!
Rainy Daze Brewing
Bushel & Barrel Ciderhouse
They occasionally hold special events such as dinners.
Burrata Bistro and Paella Bar
Indoor, we've gone to the bar for tapas and drinks - but I didn't realize how many wonderful options the menu has until we had a large outdoor dinner there last summer. The food was superb.
Viking Ice Cream
But you may have encountered it if you:
- Live here
- Have gone to VikingFest (and as aside, I seem to recall the ice cream being called Viking FEAST and note that this has changed. Or was that my imagination?)
- Have shopped in a few of the local retailers that carry it (Red Apple grocery next door to the "Forge" does).
So if you want some authentic Poulsbo ice cream, I recommend it. My favorite is the pumpkin, which you can only get seasonally.
If you visit the Forge, they are open odd hours, generally around 11:00 but check the door as the sign may make it look like they're not open.
Poulsbo Sons of Norway
They regularly have events like lunches, Julefest, Viking bonfires, Norwegian dancing classes, and (of course) Lutefisk dinners. They also have a "Trolls Den" bar for members.
If we have any of their events on our website, they'd be here. Better yet, check their website for what's going on currently.
Poulsbo Heritage Museum and Maritime Museum (and Hyak)
The Poulsbo Heritage Museum is a source if you want to know more about the history of Little Norway.
JJ's Fish House
I'd say yes! I enjoy their fish and chips, though I haven't been there recently -- and that's not because it wasn't good, just because I don't go out for fish and chips much. However, my husband's opinion is that they're OK but you should eat them in the restaurant as he thinks they don't transport well.
But it's not all fish and chips, they offer other seafood -- and food -- as well.
The restaurant had closed recently, which was sad to see after 26 years in Poulsbo, but new owners purchased it and it reopened in May 2023. The new owners have done some remodeling on the inside and the food may be a bit different now -- I think it's time for me to take another visit!
One thing I like about going to JJ's in the warmer months is that they have an outside sitting area -- limited, so you're lucky to get a table -- but I like to have a drink and watch the cars coming and going from the parking lot, and people passing by.
Regarding the "no pet" rule checked off here, I HAVE seen people with dogs at the outdoor seating area and, of course, service animals are always allowed.
Poulsbo Red Phone Booth
Poulsbo Candy Shoppe
They have great selection of fudge as well as candy -- both current-day candy and I've found a few harder-to-find items there that recall the candy of my childhood. They also had an awesome Tootsie Pop Owl t-shirt that was mostly sold out after Viking Fest last year.
They're generally open 11-5 and are closed on Mondays.
Read our post about things to do in Poulsbo.
SEA Discovery Center (and Octopus Statue)
It's a place for kids to view marine life, with some hands-on activities, too.
In front, you'll find a large Octopus sculpture, which was introduced in 2013. This 7' sculpture is by artist Mark Gale, who also is responsibe for the 12' Poulsbo Norseman statue that stands at Viking Way.
Mama's Armenian Kitchen
The bakery is located upstairs from Cafe Cocina -- you'll find the stairs around the corner.
Read our post about things to do in Poulsbo.
Olympic Outdoor Center Kayak Rentals
During Summer months, they're generally open from 10--6 during the week and 10-8 Friday and Saturday.
In the Summer, in particular, if you're kayaking watch for harbor seals near the marina -- there are often babies in July. You are supposed to keep your distance from them -- I can't promise they'll keep their distance from you. I had one follow me and continue in a pattern of swimming under my boat and then popping up in front of it early one morning years ago (wish I'd had a camera on the front of the boat).
If you're confident in kayaking, kayak down to Keyport, grab a sandwich and then kayak back.
King Olaf Statue
The statue dates from 1975 after a visit to Poulsbo from King Olav V of Norway.
He's small -- not huge like the 12' tall Poulsbo Norseman that came later, but likely more historically accurate.
Poulsbo Norseman Statue
The statue sits on the corner of Viking and Lindvig Way -- a bit outside the part of Front Street that most visitors venture down, so you might need to go look for it -- but easy to spot when you're there as it is 12 feet tall and weighs almost 6000lbs!
The Norseman often gets dressed up for various holidays and local events, sometimes having sported sombreros, bunny ears, race bibs, aprons, or giant beer tankards.
I've heard mixed opinions about the statue -- we love it, but there were initally some complaints about the historical inaccuracy of horned helmets and I've met people who think it's "disrespectful" to dress a "proud viking" up in Easter bunny ears.
Read our post about things to do in Poulsbo, WA.
Muriel Iverson Williams Poulsbo Waterfront Park and Kvelstad Pavilion
On Poulsbo's waterfront is a lovely park with lawn, walking paths and a large gazebo with some seating surrounding it. You'll find plenty of benches to sit and look out at the marina.
The park's namesake, Muriel Iverson Williams, was the town's second mayor.
While you're in the park, look for the small statue of Viking King Olaf near the Sons of Norway, and the Guardian Stone statue (swords in the stone!) And be sure to take a walk down the nearby boardwalk which will take you to some trails into American Legion Park.
If you're a birder, you'll find many marine birds and some other varieties. I've noted many great blue herons, several varieties of duck, occasionally I've spotted a belted Kingfisher -- though I think I recall that being closer down near the Fish Park bridge. Canada geese, of course, and many gulls. You also might spy a bald eagle or osprey but at this location they're usually farther overhead.
Sluy's Bakery
It's where Poulsbo Bread originated -- but visitors are more likely to purchase sweet treats.
Our recommendation? Things vary from time to time, but we think you should try the Viking Cup, which is essentially a cinnamon roll with a bunch of cream cheese frosting. The dough boys were popular with my kids, and you can usually find some smiley or frownie face cookies -- get one based on your mood for the day!
Beware, though, because on sunny days with lots of traffic a line sometimes forms down the block.
Sluy's is generally open from 5AM - 6PM daily. Get there early for less traffic and best selection!

Slippery Pig Brewery
Slippery Pig Brewery in Poulsbo had interesting beers, good food, a funky venue, and live entertainment some evenings. Sadly, they closed down in January 2025.

Poulsbohemian Coffeehouse
My favorite spot (don't take it) is the comfy chair at the back where I used to plant myself on a quiet morning to work on some writing tasks while being able to gaze out at Liberty Bay.
You'll also find some outdoor chairs and tables in front -- great if you're there with your dog -- and a couple of Adirondack-style chairs at the side of the building where you can sit and gaze out at the bay if weather permits.
Like most coffee shops, the Poulsbohemian Coffeehouse features varying artwork by local artists on its walls. And, like most coffee houses, wi-fi is available so you can grab a table and work on your tasks, if you want. But, of course, it's also great place to sit and chat, or sit and be quiet if that's your style (like me).
The Poulsbohemian Coffee House opened in 1993 and is owned by Marianna Mears according to this 1997 Kitsap Sun article.
Prior to the pandemic, they used to have many "armchair poetry" readings but, unfortunately, those haven't resumed since at the time of this writing.
Poulsbohemian Coffeehouse Hours
At the time we're writing this, the Poulsbohemian Coffeehouse is open 8-4 Tuesday-Sunday and is closed on Mondays.

However, if you're a hammock camper, and you find the right site, there are better tree choices here! You won't find a tree in your campsite at the water trails sites.
Blake Island Campground
Reservations are not taken -- except for group camping.
Like all camping on Blake, it's boat-in only.
Stay on the other side of the island if you have your own boat and want a quieter adventure. Stay here if you want to be close to Tillicum Village and the Argosy Cruises boats.
Tillicum Village (CLOSED)
Here's the information we used to have for this:
Native American village attraction with performances and dances -- but well-known for its salmon bake. You need to make reservations for the salmon bake via Argosy cruises. Even if you're camping across the island (though I found that there was a mimosa bar open to all one Summer morning).
If you eat outdoors here (or anywhere on the island) beware of the assertive raccoons! One was bold enough to wander into Tillicum's back door!

Big Beef Creek
Of course, you'll also see a variety of other birds while you're at it. I've also seen red tailed haws, ducks, great blue herons to name a few.
Parking is roadside, here and if you want to go down to the beach, you'll need to climb down a few rocks.
