What is Cranksgiving?
Cranksgiving is an event which sees cyclist riding around rounding up food for their local food banks, something that Cascade Bicycle Club dubs, “a unique combination of scavenger hunt and cycling.”
For the Seattle Cranksgiving event, there’s no RSVP needed. Just show up with your bike.
Some Cranksgiving events have you bring money and buy your own food. While that’s part of this Cranksgiving as well (anticipate spending at least $20 on groceries), it includes a scavenger hunt as part of the grocery shopping.
Afterward, there’s an afterparty at Central Cinema.
What you should know about Cranksgiving Seattle
- In general the ride is between 13-15 miles, but there are shorter options as well if you can’t ride that far.
- It’s BYOB (Bring your own bike) and bring your own supplies. You need to have some way to carry items on your bike. A backpack might work. My choice would be my ginormous Ortleib XL panniers, but I imagine you could carry a LOT of stuff with a trailer. You also need to bring a way to secure your bike.
