Annual Ride the Rim Returns for 2024

Ride, Run or Walk on two Vehicle-Free Days at Crater Lake National Park

What: Crater Lake National Park, in partnership with Friends of Crater Lake and Discover Klamath, will host the annual Ride the Rim days September 7 and 14, 2024. On these consecutive Saturdays, East Rim Drive from North Junction to Park Headquarters will be closed to motorized vehicles from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for non-motorized recreation including biking, hiking, and running. Ride the Rim has become one of Oregon’s most well-known and epic cycling events and attracts cyclists from all over the USA, as well as internationally to enjoy the serene beauty of Crater Lake National Park without any vehicular traffic on over 75% of the Park’s 33-mile Rim Drive.

When: September 7 & 14 2024, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Where: Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

  • East Rim, the official vehicle free route and approximately 25 miles, will open at 8:00 am and will remain closed to vehicles until 4:00 pm. The East Rim can take roughly 4 hours to complete, give or take an hour based on individual experience levels. Please plan accordingly and start at an appropriate time. Riders can choose to continue past the vehicle free portion and complete the entire Rim Drive, which makes the ride a total of 33 miles.

Tickets: While the event itself is free, Ride the Rim participants will need to register for the event and pay a Park Entrance Fee upon entering the park. Registration closes September 2nd, please visit https://ridetherimoregon.com/registration/

Parking/Shuttle Service: Vehicle Parking is located at the Steel Visitor Center/Park HQ (larger parking lot), North Junction (limited parking) and Picnic Hill (between Rim Village and Crater Lake Lodge). A shuttle service will be provided along the West Rim Drive only and will only transport people, not bikes. There will be pick-up/drop-op locations at Park HQ, Rim Village, and North Junction. There will be multiple shuttles in a constant rotation throughout the day to help move as many people as quickly as possible.
