The Drone Video of the Capitol Hill Black Lives Matter Mural in Seattle is Very Cool!

While I grew up in Seattle, and still live nearby, I haven’t been over to the Seattle protests or the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ). Excuses, excuses, but I’ m still mostly socially distancing, sticking close to home due to COVID and family responsibilities, and exploring what I can do from here. But I’m also a camera and drone owner, and the temptation has been to break out of my isolation and go over there, both to support the protest and to document.

But enough people are documenting, and the protesters would thank me for not flying a drone over them. My flying skills keep me from flying anywhere near a densely populated area at this point.

So I appreciate that Kyle Kotajarvi went out with his drone to take this footage of the enormous Black Lives Matter mural painted on the street near the rainbow crossing (which one tweeter pointed out has, unfortunately, been defaced by homophobic slurs.)

I saw an overhead photo of the mural in the Seattle Times, but it was black and white and seemed to impose the shape of the mural, the letters, atop the trees in the photo. Kotajarvi’s drone photo shows it in its full, colorful glory.

His Instagram account has a wonderful video of the mural, if you want to take a closer look. He lists the Instagram accounts of all of the artists there and offered to take donations of supplies over. The artists he mentions in his IG post are:
